Nature: Grass Fire / Outside Fire / Brush Fire

On Tuesday afternoon, March 10^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a grass fire on Mount Joy Road.  It was reported that the yard was on fire.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Brush 80 and Utility 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crews were requested into initiate fire suppression activities to control the spread of the fire and to mitigate the tree line where more fire was prevalent. 

It appears that the property owner may have been attempting to burn outside and the weather conditions exasperated the spread of the flames into consuming much of the grassy yard and surrounding areas as well as the nearby tree line. Once under controls, crews spend time mopping up and saturating the entire area to fully suppress the concern.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control was needed.

All units were authorized to return to their quarters.
