Nature: Delaware State Fire Chief's Installation Ceremonies – Annual Conference
Place: Mill Creek, Wilmington, DE
On Thursday, September 16th, many chiefs, past chiefs, and volunteers of the Delaware Fire Service attended the Delaware State Fire Chief's Annual Meeting and Installation Ceremonies for its new officers for the 2021-2022 year.
This was a bittersweet event for Indian River’s Past Chief Steven Deery who has served at the helm of the Delaware State Fire Chief’s Association's Presidency for the past two terms – 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. This opportunity was afforded Chief Deery based upon his previous tenure and experience with the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, the Sussex County Fire Chief’s Association as well as the Sussex County Firefighter’s Association.
This event was the 251st Installation Ceremony for the incoming officers; however, it was an unique event for Chief Deery because his tenure was extended an additional term due to COVID-19 Pandemic. Chief Deery appears to the be first President to serve two consecutive terms in the history of this organization.
The keynote speaker for the event was Philadelphia's Fire Commissioner Adam K. Theil who delivered an extremely instrumental and inspiration keynote address - https://www.phila.gov/departments/philadelphia-fire-department/
At the close of the meeting, Chief Deery was presented with departing momentos, plaques and tokens from the organizational entities which included Indian River and Memorial fire companies.
Indian River acknowledges and congratulates Chief Steven Deery for his successful terms leading the Delaware State Fire Chief’s Association.
