Nature: MVC - Rollover
Location: Mount Joy Rd and Lawson Rd , 19966
On Monday morning, October 12th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Mount Joy Road in the vicinity of Townsend Road. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Millsboro EMS Units and the Sussex County Paramedics. It was reported to be a single vehicle rollover with damage to nearby above ground utility box. The correct incident location was identified as Mount Joy Road and Lawson Road.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Squad 80 and Traffic Control 80 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. The Delaware State Police Aviation Unit - Trooper #2 was not available at the time of incident dispatch.
Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization, traffic control as well as fluid and debris recovery. Notification of the appropriate utility service provider regarding the above ground utility box
It appears that a maroon SUV was traveling on Mount Joy Road and let the roadway striking an above utility box and overturning. Upon arrival of emergency response crews it was identified that a second vehicle was involved, off the roadway, and within the wood area down the road. The second vehicle was unoccupied upon evaluation.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
