On Tuesday morning, July 21st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a washdown assignment at the Wawa Store off John J. Williams Highway in Long Neck.  It was reported to be a fuel spill associated with the gas pump not shutting off and spilling onto the ground.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Squad 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation efforts.

It appears that a fuel pump did not shut off and spilled approximately 5 gallons of fuel onto the ground near the pumps.  The personnel from Wawa had the incident fully mitigated prior to arrival of emergency apparatus.

After evaluation and discussion, all emergency response units were authorized to return to their respective quarters.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
