Story

FIREFIGHTER FRIDAY: The Heart Behind the Helmet recognizes Conner Adkins.

This week, we’re proud to feature one of the next generation firefighters of Station 80:

?????Conner Adkins – Junior Firefighter

??Originally from Seaford, Delaware

?8 months with Station 80

??Why he joined:

“What made me want to become a firefighter was helping the people around me, my neighbors and community members.”

?????Inspired by:

His stepfather, Deputy Chief Ryan Mock, who introduced him to the fire service. After seeing Ryan in action, Conner knew he wanted to become a firefighter too.

??What he enjoys most:

“I’ve always enjoyed helping people. I like making people happy when they’re having a hard day and helping however I can, especially around the firehouse.”

??What people might not realize:

“It’s a hard job, but if you have the passion, you can do whatever your mind is set to.”

??Most memorable call:

Responding to a fire in his own neighborhood - a reminder of how quickly lives can change and how important it is to be there when your community needs you most.

??Outside the firehouse:

Conner attends Sussex Central High School and works at Holly Lake Campsites.

??Off-duty:

He enjoys fishing and watching movies.

??Favorite local spot:

Long Neck Diner

??Favorite sports team:

Philadelphia Eagles

??Fun Facts:

• First job: Holly Lake Campsites

• Favorite movies & TV shows: Grown Ups and Young Sheldon

• Go-to station snack: Girl Scout Cookies

• Favorite song: "Missed Call" by Treaty Oak Revival

??Why it matters:

“It means I can help someone who is having a bad day and try to make it better. It also means a lot when I get to hand out helmets and help kids see what firefighters do best.”

??Why volunteer?

“I think you should consider joining to help us keep our community safe and to see what we can accomplish together.”

??His advice:

“Why not do it? You'll always be learning new skills, making new friends, and really gaining a whole extra family.”

As one of our Junior Firefighters, Conner has already shown a strong desire to serve others and become an active part of our department. His positive attitude, willingness to learn, and passion for helping his community reflect the future of the volunteer fire service. We're excited to watch him continue to grow both as a firefighter and as a member of the Station 80 family.

??Thank you, Conner, for your dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment to serving our community!
