Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: William Street Rd and John J. Williams Highway , 19966

On Tuesday evening, July 7^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway and William Street Road. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.  It was reported to be two vehicle accident, rear end type collision with no known injuries.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Squad 80 and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility.  The Delaware State Fire Police also responded and assisted at the incident.

Emergency response crew assignments included patient stabilization where needed, vehicle stabilization, fluid and debris recovery, traffic control and overall incident mitigation efforts.

It appears that a black Nissan sedan was struck from behind by a silver Chevrolet Impala causing extensive damage to both vehicles. Both vehicles were rendered inoperable and blocking both lanes of traffic.   One person was transported to nearby medical facilities. This section of John J. Williams Highway was closed between William Street Road and Streets Road for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
