Nature: Pre-arranged Fireworks Standby Assignment – Paradise Grill
Location: Pot Nets Bayside
On Saturday evening, June 20th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company provided a designated standby crew for firework display hosted by Paradise Grill in the Pot Nets Bayside development. This assignment included a fully staffed engine crew assignment.
These pre-arranged deployments are designed to handle immediate safety needs for the pyrotechnics display. Key operational details for these standbys include:
The department dispatches fully staffed apparatus to easily maneuver through the busy venue, and marine units to monitor the nearby waterfront and residential properties.
Crews facilitate incendiary safety resources, extinguish any stray beach grass fires caused by blowing embers, and coordinate with the Pot Nets Security for crowd and traffic control.
Firefighters often use the firework crowds as an opportunity to promote Community Risk Reduction Initiatives, handing out safety and recruitment information.
Indian River would like to remind residents to use fireworks with caution ahead of the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.
Included herewith is commentary regarding firework safety. Now that consumer fireworks are legal to acquire in Delaware and you choose to use them, be sure to follow the following safety tips:
-
Never allow young children to handle fireworks
-
Older children should use them only under close adult supervision
-
Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol
-
Anyone using fireworks or standing nearby should wear protective eyewear
-
Never hold lighted fireworks in your hands
-
Never light them indoors
-
Only use them away from people, houses and flammable material
-
Never point or throw fireworks at another person
-
Only light one device at a time and maintain a safe distance after lighting
-
Never ignite devices in a container
-
Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks
-
Soak both spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding
-
Keep a bucket of water nearby to fully extinguish fireworks that don't go off or in case of fire
-
