Nature: Vehicle Accident – Traffic Hazard – John J. Williams Highway
Location: John J Williams Hwy and Magenta Lane Millsboro, DE 19966
On Monday, June 1st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway near Magenta Lane between Rosedale and Gull Point Roads. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad. It was reported to be a truck versus utility pole with wires down.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Traffic Control 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Squad 80 from the Long Neck facility. Additional resources from DELDOT Traffic Management Section were utilized for traffic control and detour monitoring.
Emergency response crews were assigned to coordinate incident mitigation efforts which included patient stabilization if needed, vehicle stabilization where needed, traffic control and notification of the utility pole identification numbers for replacement.
It appears that a GMC Sierra Pick up was traveling on John J. Williams Highway and did not successful navigate a slight curve striking a utility pole and entering a nearby field. The utility pole was severed and wires were in the roadway.
The traffic assignment was coordinated with the assistance of the Delaware State Fire Police, Indian River Traffic Control Unit and DELDOT Traffic Management Section for the duration of the incident.
This segment of John J. Williams Highway was closed as the utility pole was broken and wires were in the roadway. Traveling motorist need to exercise caution and recognize the fact a detour is being utilized.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
