Nature: Medical Emergency – Carbon Monoxide Inhalation
City: Mariners Cove
On Tuesday morning, April 28th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a possible carbon monoxide (CO) inhalation incident on Joanne Drive in the Mariner’s Cove development off Long Neck Road. Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included an exterior and interior evaluation with gas meters to identify contamination levels, if any. Assistance with patient stabilization if needed.
It appears that possibly a burner on the stove was left open and assistance with ventilation and secured the closure of the stove. There were no meter readings as well.
The EMS personnel coordinated the remainder of the services and all fire apparatus was cancelled or returned.
