The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company (IRVFC) drive-thru fried chicken dinner on  March 28th, saw a massive community turnout that both exceeded expectations and led to significant customer wait times.

While the event was a fundraising success, the high volume of "317 people interested" on social media translated into early-forming lines, before 2 p., that tested the patience of many patrons and evolved into 379 dinners being prepared and sold.

• High Demand: The event is one of the company's most popular fundraisers, often serving hundreds of meals which has routinely increased after each event. 

• Operational Challenges: Lines typically start forming well before the 3 PM start time. 

• Community Support: Despite the "exasperation" caused by long wait times, the Auxiliary of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company expressed deep gratitude for the community's "patience and pleasant attitudes".

• Additional Offerings: The event also featured the sale of homemade Easter eggs and discounted firehouse merchandise.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company is aware of the customer commentary and is evaluating ways to ameliorate these operational obstacles which may incorporate, including but not limited to the possibly limiting the number of platters (dinners) per vehicle, and adjusting the ticket dispersing process. Our goal is to keep the line moving more efficiently so we can serve as many people as possible.
