Nature: Medical & Manpower Assist

Location: 33334 Sharkeys Lane Millsboro, DE 19966

On Sunday, March 15^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to the assist the Medical Sussex Rescue Squad and Sussex County Paramedics with a medical emergency on Sharkey’s Lane off Mount Joy Road. Additional emergency alerts include the Millsboro EMS and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2 as well.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine 80, Traffic Control 80 and Utility 80 from the Long Neck area.

The aviation unit was cancelled.

These request for assistance from first responders or supporting emergency medical services (EMS), especially in smaller communities. Their responsibilities include:

• Stabilizing the patient until EMS arrives

• Assisting with patient movement and transport

• Performing CPR and advanced life support interventions if trained

• Coordinating with police, EMS, and other emergency units
