Indian River Offers Final Tribute to Clarence J. “Jim” Becker, Jr.
On Monday, February 16th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company provided its final tribute to Clarence J. “Jim” Becker, Jr. A dedicated volunteer who served as firefighter and Fire Police Officer within the organization.
Jim joined Indian River in January 1999 and served as an active volunteer before being appointed as a Delaware State Fire Police Officer. During his years of volunteerism, he taught many lessons regarding fire apparatus maintenance and repair – especially with diesel engines. Jim served faithfully for more than 27 years assisting his community in times of need.
Jim enjoyed a successful career as a diesel mechanic prior to his retirement. He was known for his strong work ethic and exceptional mechanical knowledge and did not hesitate to volunteer to work on fire company apparatus as needed. His extensive understanding of diesel engines proved invaluable, as he generously shared his expertise in fire apparatus maintenance and repair with fellow members.
Jim was the perfect neighbor—always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed. In his free time, he was an avid fisherman who cherished time spent on the water.
Jim was an outstanding friend and volunteer who will be greatly missed.
On behalf of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company we wish to offer our condolences and deepest sympathy to the Becker Family.
Rest in Peace our friend. May God Bless.
