Nature: Automatic Fire Alarms - Upgraded Residential Structure Fire

On Saturday, February 7^th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82) and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for an automatic fire alarm on Kings Lanes in the Enchanted Acres development off Long Neck Road.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.  The alarm monitoring company communicated with the homeowner and confirmed actual fire inside the residential structure.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine 80 and Command 80 from the Long Neck area and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crews coordinated an initial 360 exterior evaluation and identified a smoke condition inside the residential structure with utilities on Side “B” with a fire in the bathroom. Efforts to suppress the fire within the room were successful.  Efforts to check for fire extension into the walls and ceiling were completed.  The electrical utilities were shut off at the panel.  Emergency response units were reduced to the Indian River and Lewes before being reduced.

It appears that the homeowner was smoking in the bathroom and left the room unattended until the fire alarms were activated.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal was requested to the incident location.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control assistance for the duration of the incident.
