Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment

Location: Hollymount Rd and Anna Dr Harbeson, DE 19951

On Friday, May 16^th, the Indian River (80) and Lewes (82) fire departments were alerted for a vehicle accident on Hollymount Road and Anna Drive near Harbeson.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, as well as the Sussex County Paramedics.  It was reported that a car hit a trailer.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Utility 80-11 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. 

Emergency response crew assignments included patient stabilization where needed, vehicle stabilization, fluid and debris recovery, traffic control, preparation for occupant extrication and other incident mitigation activities.

It appears that a white Nissan Sentra was traveling on Hollymount Road and left the roadway striking a commercial flatbed trailer that was parked on the shoulder of the roadway.

The Delaware State Fire Police initially coordinated the traffic control assignments with the complete roadway closure of Hollymount Road between John J. Williams Highway and Phillips Branch Road.  The DELDOT – Traffic Management Unit responded to assist with traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

Police investigating fatal crash in Harbeson area

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal accident in the Harbeson area that left a 48-year-old Millsboro man dead.

In the morning hours of May 16, police say a Nissan Sentra was travelling southbound on Hollymount Road near Route 24. At that time, two commercial flatbed trailers were parked partially in the northbound shoulder and partially in the grass with orange reflective cones positioned alongside the trailers.

Police say for unknown reasons the Sentra left the southbound lane and veered into the northbound shoulder where it hit one of the trailers. The impact of the collision pushed the two trailers into each other.

The driver of the Sentra, whose name is being withheld until family is notified, died at the scene. Hollymount Road was closed for 3.5 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident. Any witnesses to the crash should contact Sr. Cpl. Smith at 703-3267, by sending a private message via Facebook Messenger at Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
