Nature: Wires Down/Arcing
Location: John J Williams Hwy and Sandpiper Dr Herring Creek Estates, DE 19966
On Sunday afternoon, November 17th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a wires down incident on John J. Williams Highway near Sandpiper Drive in front the of the Herring Creek Estates development. It was reported to be the result of a hit-and-run accident on John J. Wiliams Highway involving a utility pole. The utility pole was split-in-two and swinging.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Chief 80-15 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included traffic control, identification and notification of the impacted utility pole serial numbers to the Emergency Operations Center / appropriate utility service provider.
It was reported that a white Chevrolet SUV stuck the utility pole and fled the incident location with significant damage to the vehicle and the utility pole.
The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control before being released from the incident location.
The utility service provider was responding and will coordinate the necessary utility service repairs.
The Delaware State Police have identified and located the responsible vehicle and are investigating.
