Nature: Outside Fire

On Thursday morning, October 17^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an outside fire alongside Long Neck Road in the vicinity of Bayside Fitness Center.  It was identified 10’ x 100’ area of vegetation on fire with multiple parties calling the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Brush 80-0 and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response personnel initiated fire suppression activities with brush truck booster lines and rakes, established a water supply for the brush and cleared vegetation to better suppress the fire.  The area water saturated to prevent further concern.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control with the closure of Long Neck Road.
