On Wednesday evening, April 29th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company hosted their monthly firefighter training which included a Delaware State Fire School Instructor presented course on Vehicle Anatomy.

The Delaware State Fire School (DSFS) offers vehicle anatomy and rescue classes that provide hands-on experience with modern vehicle challenges, rescue techniques, and safe use of equipment such as winches to enhance firefighter response skills.

Class Overview - The vehicle anatomy training class via DSFS focuses on familiarizing firefighters and emergency responders with the structural components of vehicles and rescue operations. Topics typically covered include:

  • Understanding vehicle construction and safety features relevant to extrication.

  • Techniques for stabilization of vehicles at emergency scenes.

  • Usage of rescue equipment such as winches, ropes, and cutting tools.

  • Effective teamwork during rescue scenarios to ensure responder and patient safety.

  • Scene management and positioning during vehicle accidents to minimize risk.

The course is designed to improve situational awareness, reaction times, and efficiency when dealing with complex vehicular incidents.
