Nature: Elevator/Escalator Rescue

Location: 34098 Harvard Av Carillon Woods, DE 19966

On Thursday morning, April 23rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an elevator rescue incident on Harvard Avenue near Long Neck.  It was reported to be an elevator stuck for approximately 20 minutes with a single occupant.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Brush 80 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation with gaining access to the elevator control room and access to the elevator compartment.

It appears that an elevator was stuck as reported with a single occupant.

Elevator rescue incidents involve a structured, multi-step process focused on safely removing passengers, usually prioritizing non-destructive methods before using force. The procedure typically includes locating the car, establishing communication, securing the elevator's power through lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) protocols, and using specialized elevator keys to open hoist way doors.

All units were authorized to return after the incident was placed under control
