One Address – 2 Vehicle Accidents (32470 Block of Oak Orchard Road) – Incident Review
The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company summarizes the 32470 block of Oak Orchard Road which was the site of vehicle accidents involving the end of Oak Orchard Road.
In both instances, vehicles did not successful negotiate the stop sign and dead-end on Oak Orchard Road.
It appears that a white extended cab utility body truck, possibly a Ford, did not successful stop or reduce speed at the end of Oak Orchard Road running through a fence, striking a shed and support pillars for an overhead deck around the elevated residential structure. The driver and vehicle fled the scene prior to arrival of emergency response personnel. There were no injuries associated with the residential occupants.
It appears that a Honda Civic was traveling on Oak Orchard Road, passing another vehicle, and did not make any effort to stop at the end of Oak Orchard Road. The vehicle traverse through the private drive area, striking a bulkhead berm and catapulting itself into the Indian River Bay striking pilings before overturning and landing on its roof. The occupant was transported to nearby medical facilities. A local towing contractor utilized a rotator truck to assist with extracting the vehicle from the Indian River Bay. This incident occurred at a time during extremely blow-out tidal conditions.
This access area was once state property and was obtained from the State of Delaware via the state property abandonment process.
