Nature: Traffic Collision - Major Incident - Bus

Address: John J Williams Hwy and Autumn Road, Millsboro, DE 19966

On Tuesday afternoon, September 16^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics were alerted for a vehicle accident involving a school bus on John J. Williams Highway near Autumn Road.  It was reported to be a rear-end type collision, minor damage to vehicles, 40 children board the bus and no injuries; however, protocol was to be administered.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Squad 80 from the Long Neck facility and the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments were to mitigate the incident, provide traffic control with lane restrictions, await school district personnel, and provide assistance where needed.

It appears that the bus struck the rear of Buick Encore causing minor damage.  No school children were injured and the vehicle operator refused EMS assistance at the incident location.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
