On Sunday evening, September 14th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a serious vehicle accident involving a golf cart in the area of Piney Crest Lane and Flipper Road in the Pot Nets Bayside development.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Tower 80, Engine 80 and Squad 80 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police which were already deployed on another incident.
Emergency response crew assignments included patient stabilization, traffic control and perimeter access limitation, landing zone assignment and overall incident mitigation efforts.
The Delaware State Fire Police and Pot Nets Security coordinated traffic control and perimeter access with the closure of affected streets in the Pot Nets development for and extended duration of time.
No additional information will be available at the current time.
Indian River offers the following recommendations regarding ways to enhance golf cart safety, perform pre-operation checks (tires, brakes, steering) before usage, use seatbelts, maintain a safe speed and avoid sharp turns, ensure all passengers are seated with feet inside, and drive responsibly, avoiding distractions like cell phones. Install safety upgrades such as lights, mirrors, turn signals, and a horn. Be mindful of weather and terrain, driving cautiously on inclines and in rain. Always secure the cart with the parking brake and remove the key when unattended.
