On Thursday, September 11th, the Oak Orchard-Riverdale American Legion Post #28 held its Annual Public Candlelight Ceremony at 6 p.m. at the Pavilion on Legion Road.

Thursday, September 11th marks 24 years since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Local communities honored and remembered the 2,996 victims through motorcycle rides on the boardwalk, laps around the racetrack and many other events to service days and vigils.

Honoring the courage of first responders and victims, celebrating American resilience and unity serves as a solemn reminder to never forget the day's events.

Many take this day to share sentiments expressing grief, gratitude, and a recommitment to love and community after the attacks.

Representatives of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company attended the event at the American Legion Post #28.
