Nature: Structure Fire

On Thursday evening, August 21^st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a structure fire on Sharks Tooth Drive in the Pot Nets Seaside development off Long Neck Road.  It was reported to be a shed type structure and flames could be seen coming from the golf cart charging area.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Long Neck area, Chief 80-15 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Emergency response units were impacted and delayed as a result of the tidal conditions on Long Neck Road and in the development.

Emergency response crew assignments included an exterior and internal evaluation of the structure, secure the area or devices of concern and discussion with the property occupants. 

It appears that a lithium battery on a leaf blower was the issue after coming in contact with the elevated tidal conditions (salt water).  The fire was extinguished with a fire extinguisher and the crews evaluated and checked for operational concerns.

All emergency response units were authorized to return to their respective stations and wash and cleanse their gear (PPE) and apparatus from interaction with the tidal water conditions.
