On Monday afternoon, the Indian River (80), Bethany Beach (70), Dagsboro (73) and fire companies were alerted to assist Millville (84) fire company with a priority water rescue incident in the Indian River Bay near bouy marker 15 west of Indian River Inlet. Additional emergency alerts included the United States Coast Guard – Indian River Inlet Squadron, DNREC – Marine Police, the Sussex County Paramedics, and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2. It was reported to be a disabled vessel taking on water which was a tan 24’ boat with two (2) soles on board.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Utility 80-8 with 80 Marine 1 from the Oak Orchard area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crews were assigned to respond to the Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp and prepare for launching, provide traffic control assistance with access restrictions to the public ramps and parking facilities and other incident preparation activities.
It appears that a distressed vessel was taking on water between the designated bouy markers of 15 and 16. It was reported that the USCG arrived, assisted the vessel and there was no further need for emergency apparatus. All fire apparatus, marine apparatus and aviation were cancelled.
