Nature: Medical Emergency – John J. Williams Highway

On Friday morning, July 25th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was mitigating a fire alarm sounding incident at the Nanticoke Indian Museum when a motorist notified firefighters of a medical emergency within a vehicle while stopped at the traffic light on eastbound John J. Williams Highway.

Indian River first responders immediately notified the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center via radio communication, redirected Engine 80 to respond to the incident location as well as requested available emergency medical response units.

Emergency response personnel secured the vehicle with wheel chocks, gained access to the passenger compartment, secured the vehicle in park, assisted the occupant who appeared to be unconscious, provided traffic control assistance pending arrival of other EMS personnel.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control.

This incident was turned over to the Delaware State Police for investigation.
