Nature: Traffic Collision

On Friday, July 25th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Indian Mission Road in the vicinity of Fishermans Road. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad. It was reported to a vehicle accident involving a snapped utility pole and unknown status of electrical wires; however, electric service was out in the area.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Rescue 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included patient stabilization where needed, vehicle stabilization where needed, traffic control, fluid and debris recovery, notification of utility service provider and overall incident mitigation efforts.
It appears that silver Chevrolet Equinox was traveling on Indian Mission Road and struck a utility pole causing the electrical outage and snapping the utility pole. The electric service was out in the area for an extended period of time.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware Electric Cooperative was requested to respond to the incident location to coordinate utility pole replacement services.
The Delaware Department of Transportation (DELDOT) was requested to respond to the incident location and immediate area based upon the electric outage and its impact to the traffic lights in the area.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
