Initial Dispatch:  Fire Alarm Activation – Residential (Single)

Upgraded Dispatch:  Structure Fire – Residential (Single)

Address: 25860 Plum St Bay City, DE 19966

Cross Streets: Holly St/Main St

On Saturday afternoon, July 19th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a fire alarm activation on Plum Street in the Bay City development off Long Neck Road.  This incident was upgraded to a residential structure fire with smoke in the residence.  Additional emergency alerts included the Lewes (82) and Millsboro (83) fire companies as well as the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility and the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included an initial 360 evaluation of the structure identifying the location of utilities and crawl space as well as a smoke condition in the kitchen area of the residence.  All occupants were evacuated from the residence upon arrival of fire apparatus with notation of a feline under a bed which would not come out.

It appears that a small kitchen appliance fire was present which self-extinguished causing the smoke conditions.  Assistance with ventilation was tendered as well as downgrading the incident response to Indian River units only.  The Millsboro apparatus was reassigned to provide a standby cover up assignment for Indian River.
