Nature: Explosion

Location: 35264 Bay Breeze Lane Rehoboth Shores, DE 19966

On Sunday afternoon, July 6^th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82) and Millsboro (83) volunteer fire companies were alerted for an explosion incident on Bay Breeze Lane in the Rehoboth Shores development off of Long Neck Road.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.  It was reported that a propane tank exploded on a propane grill.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident evaluation and mitigation, positive pressure ventilation for the residential structure, disconnection and shut off of the propane tank, and checking for suppression and extension. EMS personnel did check out the residents.

It appears that the propane grill was being utilized when it apparently exploded and caught fire melting the siding to the residential structure.  Quick think residents assisted with an fire extinguisher suppressing the flames and fire.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control and scene access for the duration of the incident.
