Illustrated herewith is an incident synopsis of the emergency alerts on Friday, June 26th.

1. Nature:  Structure Fire – Multi Residential Facility.  The Indian River (80), Milton (85), and Rehoboth Beach (86) fire departments were alerted to assist the Lewes (82) Fire Department with a multi-residential structure fire.  It was reported that the caller can see flames shooting about 8 foot high in the back of the residential condo complex on Lakeside Drive in the Plantations East Development.  Initial arriving emergency response units quickly identified that the public utility gas company was purging gas from the lines.  All responding units were cancelled and authorized to return to the respective quarters.

2. Nature: Alarms – Carbon Monoxide Detector Activation.  The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a carbon monoxide detector activation with high meter readings pursuant to the reporting party.  Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility.  Emergency response crews checked and evaluated the exterior and interior of the residential structure with deployment of additional gas detectors that failed to identify any meter readings.  After discussion with residential occupants all emergency response apparatus were authorized to run to their quarters.

Our hope is to increase awareness within our immediate fire district to mitigate the quantity of these unwanted / unfounded automatic incidents and to promulgate information to assist with mitigation efforts.
