Nature: Residential Structure Fire
Location: 24682 Shoreline Dr Stonewater Creek, DE 19966
On Friday, February 14th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), Lewes (82), Milton (85) and Rehoboth Beach (86) volunteer fire companies were alerted for a residential structure fire on Shoreline Drive in the Stonewater Creek development off Indian Mission Road. It was reported that multiple calls were received for a residential structure fire with smoke coming from the eaves of the house. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine 80, Engine #80-1 and Brush 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included apparatus assignments for fire suppression, water supply, tower and aerial truck operations, firefighter rehab operations, and numerous other incident mitigation assignments. Initial fire suppression attack lines were initiated for an interior fire suppress attack after having an exterior evaluation completed with identification of issues and location of utilities, etc. The incident size-up included hydrant locations, fire on the second floor bedroom with heavy smoke showing from the eaves of the structure and fire on the “B” side, it was 2.5 story structure with walk outs on the “C” side on the second floor. Additional resources included additional ladder and engines to the incident location. Incident Command was providing updated information with heavy fire on the “A/B” side with two fire suppression lines in services while aerial trucks were getting established. EVAC tones were activated based on structural collapse on the “C” side of the residence and all persons were accounted for. Utility service companies were requested to the incident location for disconnection. The assistance of the American Red Cross was requested for two displaced residents and animals. Emergency crews remained on location for overhaul and suppression efforts.
It appears that a 2.5 story residential structure was involved with an attic fire with heavy smoke and fire in the Stonewater Creek development. The residential structure was considered a significant loss with residential occupants displaced. There was one firefighter sent for EMS evaluation.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control with roadway closures and detours established where needed.
The American Red Cross was requested for assistance.
The Delaware Fire Marshal is investigating.
