Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment

Location: 28166 John J Williams Hwy Millsboro, DE 19966

 

On Monday, January 3rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment on John J. Williams Highway between Warwick Road and Bulls Eye Lane.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.

Emergency response crews from Indian River included Rescue 80, Chief 80-15, Incident Command 80 from the Oak Orchard area as well as Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck area. 

Emergency response crew assignment included preparation for vehicle extrication, vehicle stabilization, assistance with patient stabilization if needed, traffic control, incident mitigation.  This section of John J. Williams Highway was closed in both directions for the duration of the incident. 

It appears that a utility body truck hauling a trailer and skid steer was traveling on John J. Williams Highway when the skid steer become dislodged from utility trailer after being struck by a Chevrolet Express Utility Van and striking a nearby utility pole.  The bucket of the skid steer separated from the unit as well.  The occupant of the utility van needed to be extricated from the vehicle and transported to nearby medical facilities.

The utility service provider – Delmarva Power was notified regarding the broken utility pole.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control assistance as well as traffic detour establishment.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
