Nature: Outside Fire

Location: Across From Grotto's

Address: 32544 - 32575 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966

On Sunday, September 16th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an outside fire on Long Neck Road across from Grotto’s. There was a heavy smoke condition present in the area.

Emergency response units included: Brush 80-00 & Engine #80-2 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Brush 80-0 & Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility.

The Incident Command Operations were coordinated by Chief Steven C. Deery, Jr.

Emergency response crews were directed to investigate the smoke conditions as was the emergency response assignment downgraded to brush trucks only.

The origin of the smoke was from an inappropriate burn barrel behind a residential structure on Long Neck Road. The residential property owner was advised of the proper burning procedures which prohibits burn barrel and the burning of leaves and other debris.

The burn barrel contents were extinguished prior to the departure of the fire company representatives.
