Nature: Holiday Seasonal Activities

During the month of December, various members of the fire company and ladies auixialiry of Indian River participated in multiple community appreciation events which included but not limited to:  Christmas Parades; family dinner event for the patrons of the Boys & Girls Club and their immediate families; baked cookies and provided donations for holiday food drives; provided fire safety mesages and tips via social media and online websites; and coordianted many other activities to assist the residents of our county during this holiday season.

Some members decorated various units for neighboring community parades which included Engine 80-1, Engine #80-3 (1968 Mack), and 80 Marine 2 as well as decorated the fire station.  These parade units were able to garnish several awards which included three (3) first place trophies and one second place trophy.

Some of these activites were championed by our Ladies Auxiliary unit that provides an insurmountable but often overlooked service to our community.  Annually, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and the Community Church of Oak Orchard hosts an annual holiday theme play with children from the Boys & Girls Club of Oak Orchard-Riverdale and provides a full dinner for approximately 215 people.

Other activities include the safety messages that are illustrated on social media and online websites as well as the student message board at the Long Neck Elementary School that is updated monthly to include current safety topical messages and displays.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company would like to acknowledge the efforts of the local towns to offer these opportunities to highlight the communities’ resources available for emergency service responses as well as highlighting the community outreach services available.

Indian River extends best wishes for peace and joy this holiday season.   May your new year be filled with good health, happiness and prosperity.
