Friday October, 21 2011 Nature: Educational Field Trip – Address: Industrial Airpark, Georgetown, DE On Friday, October 21st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and the Long Neck Elementary School continued its collaborative efforts to teach fire prevention awareness and basic principles of fire physics, as well as fire company engine operations. These instructional aspects of this field trip is to tour and become acclimated with the Delaware State Fire School – Georgetown Campus and the various job duties and responsibilities associated with being a firefighter and emergency medical services (EMS) attendant. These students were introduced to various EMS tools of the trade as well as basic principles of patient stabilization a preparation for transport to nearby medical facilities. Students were also instructed on the benefits of work smoking detectors, various home safety techniques and measures as well as the physics and theory of fire within a structured environment an engine company operation. In all eleven (11) volunteers of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company participated with this initiative to enhance fire prevention awareness objectives.
