Story
Monday October, 17 2011 Nature: Fire Prevention Program @ Long Neck Elementary School Address: School Lane, Millsboro, DE 19966 On Monday, October 17th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company completed a part of a weeklong educational and recreational curriculum initiative at the Long Neck Elementary School. This year’s educational initiative included many fire prevention and awareness initiatives for the grade appropriate populations. The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and the Long Neck Elementary School typical celebrate Fire Prevention Week during the month of October and emphasize the importance of working smoke detectors and smoke alarms; developing escape plans; creating a meeting place outside of the residential structure; practicing stop, drop and roll maneuvers; calling simulated 911 centers; knowing your residential house numbers; and knowing what to do in times of a fire. The students participated in various activities which included a tour of the fire stations; awareness of a fire engine and its equipment and tools; calling 911 exercises; navigating a simulated smoke house; bucket brigade race; and a simulated fire muster and hose handing tactics. The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company would like to recognize the professional diligence and dedication of the Long Neck Elementary School staff for their assistance during these activities. Illustrated herewith are various photographs of initiatives utilized by the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company.
