On Sunday morning, August 15th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a personal injury vehicle collision on Oak Orchard Road in the vicinity of the entrance to Driftwood Village.

It was reported to have a two vehicle collision with minor injuries.

Upon arrival of emergency response personnel, it was determined to a two vehicle collision with partial roll-over and occupant entrapment in one vehicle.

Emergency response personnel were assigned to coordinate and assist with patient stabilization, initiate procedures for occupant extrication, coordinate traffic control and scene safety measures.

It appears that both vehicles were traveling north on Oak Orchard Road approaching Driftwood Village when the greenish color Pontiac struck the rear of the maroon Ford Explorer causing the Explorer to slide and spin clockwise, partially rolling over and striking a tree; thereby, resulting in the vehicle’s roof collapse and landing back on all four wheels.

The occupant of the Explorer was trapped in the vehicle requiring extrication by removing the B-post and gaining better accessibility to the occupant compartment of the vehicle.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control measures for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating the incident.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company is pleased to identify that the Hurst – Jaws of Life – Green Cross was awarded to the emergency response personnel that operated these Jaws of Life tools at this incident.  Please refer to the following webpage for additional information:
