Tuesday June, 2 2009 @ 16:00:51 Nature: Traffic/Transportation Acdnt BLS Address: Hollymount Rd & Indian Mission, Harbeson, DE 19951 On Tuesday afternoon, June 2nd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a personal injury collision involving a white box truck and a silver four door sedan that collided at the intersection of Hollymount and Indian Mission Roads. The Millsboro Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to respond with their hazardous material unit. The silver sedan collided with driver’s side of the box truck rupturing the diesel fuel tank spilling a significant quantity of fuel onto the roadway. The responding emergency apparatus was designed to coordinate vehicle stabilization, scene stabilization, incident clean-up and coordination with the Millsboro Volunteer Fire Company to coordinate clean-up of the diesel fuel spill, containment of the leaking fuel and re-tanking of the fuel from the leaking fuel tanks into another 55 gallon storage container. The Delaware State Fire Police was alerted to coordinate traffic control measures for the duration of the incident. The Delaware Department of Transportation was alerted to assist with the traffic control measures as well as evaluation of the roadway conditions after the fuel clean up was completed. The Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control was alerted to address the haz-mat situation with the diesel fuel spill. The Delaware State Police are investigating the incident.
