Wednesday December, 10 2008 @ 17:27:44 Nature: Traffic/Transportation Accident ALS Address: Rosedale Rd & John J Williams Hwy., Long Neck, DE 19966 At approximately 5:25 p.m., Fire Police Officer Dominic Messina happened upon a vehicle accident at the intersection of John J. Williams and Rosedale Road involving two vehicles that collided. Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lane of John J. Williams Highway. The incident involved a med-size Chrysler New Yorker and a compact size Dodge Neon and both vehicles were occupied by elderly persons. The occupants of the New Yorker did not require medical attention however, could not exit the vehicle. The passenger of the Neon was entrapped and would necessitate some extrication measures. Emergency response personnel were assisted with the immediate arrival of Chief Steven C. Deery, Jr. who initially coordinated incident command until Indian River’s Duty Officer arrived. First Assistant Eric Ruckle was Duty Officer and requested assistance with patient assessment, initial vehicle stabilization and evaluate the extrication operations. The most efficient method of extrication was to remove the roof section of the Neon. Rescue 80 and Engine 80-5 were assigned to coordinate this emergency maneuver. John J. Williams Highway was closed of the duration of this incident and the Delaware State Fire Police detoured traffic onto Gull Point Road, Layton Davis Road and River Roads. The incident is under investigation by the Delaware State Police
