On February 11, 2008, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a mulch pile fire on American Legion Road just off Bay Farm Road. Over the previous days, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company responded to this location during previous incidents. The fire company was assisted by a private backhoe operator to pull the pile apart.
