Story
On Monday evening, October 1, 2007, at 9:49 p.m. the Indian River, Lewes, and Millsboro fire companies were alerted for a reported working structure fire at the Sand Bar Tavern on Long Neck Road. Fortunately, an Engine Captain from Indian River was in the immediate proximity of the Tavern and requested and immediate evacuation of all occupants and attempted to deter the fire with an extinguisher. Upon arrival of Second Assistant Chief Steve Hawkins, it was determined to have a strip mall type commercial structure with smoke showing from the Sandbar facility. Engine 80-2, under the direction of Deputy Chief Brian Hubbs, advanced an attack line into the structure to begin fire suppression. Ladder 80 and Ladder 82 were assigned to conduct ventilation operations on the roof of the commercial structure. Engine #80-1 was assigned to water supply duties from a nearby fire hydrant in Mariner’s Cove. Additional manpower from Millsboro and Lewes fire companies to assist with extinguishment and containment of the fire. The incident was placed under control at 10:32 p.m. by the Incident Commander. The Office of the Delaware State Fire Marshal is conducting an investigation into the origin of the incident. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
