Nature: Structure Fire

Location: Left Side of Long Neck

Address:  24798-24851 John J William Millsboro, DE 19966

 

On Tuesday evening, October 11th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), Lewes (82), and Rehoboth Beach (86) fire companies were alerted for a working structure fire with possible explosion on John J. Williams Highway on the left side of Food Lion.  Numberous other fire companies were alerted for cover up or standby assignments. It was reported to have large plumes of black smoke visible from Coastal Highway in Lewes, numerous explosions, electrical wires down, and numerous fires.

Emergency response apparatus from Indian River include Tanker 80, Rescue 80, Utility 80-11, Engine #80-3, Engine #80-1, Brush 80-00 as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Additional services were dispatched from the Sussex County Emergency Medical Services, the local emergency medical services provider, and the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Emergency response assignments included to establish a quick fire suppression or knock down effort, implement large diameter hose water supply from apparatus staging on John J. Williams Highway, coordinate disconnection of electrical services and evaluate reports of downed wires, establish a lighting source for enhanced visibility, and preserve the integrity of the scene for potential investigative purposes.

It appears that numerous storage facilities, a utility box truck, aluminum marine units, and significant household commodities caught fire behind a residential structure on John J. Williams Highway. It was reported to have heavy black plumes of smoke billing from the location as well as numerous explosions and fire.

The Delaware State Fire Police were ordered to close John J. Williams Highway for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.

There were no reported civilian or firefighter injuries associated with the incident.

UPDATE: Yard sale business fire in Long Neck ruled as arson

The fire that engulfed a yard sale business in Long Neck Tuesday night is now being ruled as arson.

Damage is estimated at $25,000.
