Nature: Structure Fire

Initial Reported Location: Pot Nets Creekside/Bayside Area Address: 32968 Long Neck Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

Actual Location:  North Gull View Drive, Pot Nets Coveside

On Wednesday afternoon, August 31st, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Rehoboth Beach (86) volunteer fire companies were dispatched for a structure fire originally reported as Marina Way or Marina Drive in the Pot Nets Creekside development. This incident was reported by a boater saying that fire and flames could be seen coming from the rear of the residence.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Due to the uncertainty of the incident location because there is no Marina Drive or Marina Way in the Pot Nets Creekside development Engine #80-3 went to the Pot Nets Creekside location; Tanker 80 was heading towards the Mariner Way in the Herring Creek Estates Development; and Engine #80-1 was progressing further down Long Neck Road based upon conflicting information. The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center called back to the reporting person(s) and clarified their location which was between Bay City and Mariner’s Cove making the incident location in Pot Nets Coveside. Additional emergency callers started telephoning 9-1-1 and confirmed the incident location by an actual caller on the location of the incident..

Emergency response crew assignments included fire suppression tactics because the first due engine reported heavy fire through the roof of the residential structure. Additional responding personnel were assigned other fire suppression mitigation tactics, establishment of water supply to initial apparatus, firefighter rehab assignments, gaining access to the residential structure, ventilation after suppression, and salvage and recovery measures.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
