Nature: House Fire

Location: 28481 Layton Davis Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Sunday afternoon, August 28th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Georgetown (77) fire companies were alerted for a house fire on Layton Davis Road and River Road. It was reported to be on the second floor involving room contents.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80, Rescue 80, Engine #80-5 and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation, positive pressure ventilation, fire suppression, as well as salvage and recovery.   It was identified that the residents were able to extinquish the fire and responding personnel were able to assist with removal of the fire related debris prior to arrival of emergency apparatus.

It appears that the resident was watching TV on the sofa and discarded a cigarette that ultimately caught a recliner and carpeting on fire prior to gaining the attention of the household occupants.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.
