Nature: Vehicle Accident - Possibly Serious

Location: Layton Davis Road, John J Williams Hwy near Rosedale Road, Millsboro, DE 19966

On Monday afternoon, February 1st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway and Layton Davis Road. It was reported to be two vehicles, head-on with possible entrapment and serious injuries.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police, the Sussex County Paramedics, and the Delaware State Police Aviation unit.

Emergency response crew assignments included overall incident mitigation activities including but not limited to: patient stabilization, scene stabilization, vehicle stabilization, preparation for vehicle extrication, vehicle extrication, traffic control, landing zoning, and debris and fluid recovery.

It appears that a green Hyundai and a maroon Ford Expedition traveling on Route 24 near the intersection of Layton Davis Road collided head-on. Both vehicles sustained significant damage requiring vehicle extrication on the Hyundai.

The Delaware State Fire Police were ordered to close John J. Williams Highway down for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
