Indian River Station 2 - Long Neck Facility
Long Neck Facility - Station 2 In 1972, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company built the Long Neck facility on land donated by James and Audrey Palmer to be utilized as a fire station. In 2000, this Long Neck facility was renovated to include additional rooms for firefighting apparatus, equipment, and a membership gathering area. Commencing in 2000, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was authorized to acquire adjoining parcels for the anticipated expansion of the Long Neck facility. In 2000, the parcel known as the Brooks Property was acquired. In 2005, the parcel known as the Coleman Property was acquired. In 2013, the Coleman property was demolished in preparation for future expansion http://www.irvfc.com/gallery/detail/4232. In late 2005 and early 2006, a radio tower approximately 140' tall was erected at our Station #2 (Banks Road) facility to aid in radio communications with our 400 megahertz local radio band and other devices http://www.irvfc.com/gallery/detail/33393?ss=1. This tower obtained from the Lewes/Rehoboth Station #2 location and relocated to Indian River's Station #2 merely for the cost of the relocation and installation. This deconstruction and re-erection was coordinated by Delaware Tower, currently known as First State Tower. In 2015, the parcel known as the Mills Property was acquired http://www.irvfc.com/gallery/detail?id=22924. In 2016, the consolidation of all these parcels was coordinated for the expansion project. In 2019, Indian River entered into agreements and authorized the decommissioning of the aforementioned radio tower to allow for the erection of a new tower http://www.irvfc.com/gallery/detail?id=36996. |
