Nature: Indian River Recognizes Firefighter First Responder Achievements
Address: Main Station – Oak Orchard
The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company recognizes their firefighter recruits that have fulfilled their firefighter requirements and apprenticeships and have been awarded their respective firefighter “black” frontal shields for their respective firefighter helmet.
These shields are designed to be distinguishable amongst a group of firefighters to signify full firefighter certifications have been achieved. In many cases, colors designate training levels or competency from department to department,
The Indian River members that have been presented to their black front shields are:

Casandra Correll – Firefighter from our Long Neck Station.
Casandra was a Junior Firefighter that has received fulfilled all of her fire school training requirements and is a 2025 Graduate of Sussex Technical School District. Casandra has chosen to volunteer with the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and has been extremely active in our Junior Firefighter Program since its inception.
• Kyle Kilgo - Firefighter from our Oak Orchard Station.
Kyle has fulfilled all of his fire school training requirements and has chosen to volunteer with the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and has been extremely active during his apprenticeship program. Parker Karpin – Firefighter from our Oak Orchard Station.
Parker has fulfilled all of his fire school training requirements and is a 2025 Graduate of Cape Henlopen School District. Parker has chosen to volunteer with the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and has been extremely active during his apprenticeship program. Michael Morgan – Firefighter from our Long Neck Station.
Michael has fulfilled all of his fire school training requirements and has chosen to volunteer with the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and has been extremely active during his apprenticeship program. Michael was a recent graduate of the Delaware State Fire School 2025 Fire Academy - https://irvfc.com/gallery/detail/53977
In many cases, these volunteers have completed at a minimum of 168 training hours for the coursework and classroom phase of this apprenticeship program as well as many other in-house training requirements that are placed upon our volunteers.
