Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment
Location: Long Neck Rd between Pot Nets Bayside entranceways
On Thursday morning, February 22nd, the Indian River (80) and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment on Long Neck Road. It was reported to be two vehicles with a pick-up truck rollover and entrapment and one person laying on side of the road. Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics, the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2. An additional emergency response engine from the Lewes (82) Fire Department responded as well.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included complete closure of Long Neck Road for the duration of the incident, vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization, preparation for extrication with windshield and roof removal of the pick-up truck, preparation for landing zone, fluid and debris recovery as well as overall incident mitigation.
It appears that a white Ford Pick-up and a silver Honda Accord collided on Long Neck Road near the sharp curves between the entrances to Pot Nets Bayside. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage with multiple patients needing emergency medical attention. Two priority persons were transported for additional medical attention with one of them being flown to Christiana Hospital.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
