Nature: Vehicle Accident
Location: John J Williams Hwy and Hollymount Road, Millsboro, DE 19966
Early Saturday morning, January 16th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway just west of the Hollymount Road intersection. It was reported to be a single vehicle versus a utility pole.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Additional alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad for their EMS services and fire police assistance.
Emergency response crew assignments included traffic control, vehicle stabilization, fluid and debris recovery, notification of utility service providers (Delaware Electric Cooperative) as well as the Delaware Department of Transportation.
It appears that a black Dodge RAM Pick Up was traveling west on John J. Williams Highway and struck the utility pole causing it to snap into pieces and fall into the roadway. All electrical service to the area were impacted as a result of the incident. This section of John J. Williams Highway was closed between Holly Lake Road and Hollymount Road for the duration of the incident. The occupant of the vehicle refused any additional medical services.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the traffic control assignment pending arrival of the Delaware Department of Transportation.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
