Indian River Continues to Promote Fire Prevention and Fire Safety Measures..
As we continue to respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company continues to promote fire prevention and fire safety while working closely with our corporate and community partners to fulfill our fire prevention mission where and when its safe to do so.
To protect everyone’s safety, we have postponed many fire prevention activities but have vested significant interest in fire prevention safety and smoke detector campaigns in targeted areas utilizing precautions. Specifically, Indian River partnered with Harry’s Hardware (Long Neck location) to promote fire prevention and developed a display for fire prevention awareness by offering a centralized location for smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, CO2 detectors and informational pamphlets.
As we prepare for student return to local schools, the Indian River's Fire Prevention Committee was able to access and update the fire prevention bulletin boards within the school with commentary and fire prevention information and displays at the Long Neck Elementary School.
Over the past week, the Fire Prevention Committee canvassed the Shawn’s Hide-a-way area to distribute free smoke detectors, fire prevention materials and discussed fire safety precautions in that respective community. Additional discussions evolved around developing an escape plan and promoting overall fire safety within the community. In total, sixty-nine (69) homes were visited and thirty-seven (37) smoke detectors were disseminated with this initiative.
The Fire Prevention Committee would like to acknowledge the corporate and community for their support with this process.
