Nature: Structure Fire (Standby Cover Up Assignment – Millsboro)
Address: 32301 Molly Field Rd
Cross Streets: Resplendence Rd/Gum Tree Rd
On Sunday, June 28th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to provide a standby/Cover-Up Assignment for the Millsboro Volunteer Fire Company after their original standby company – Georgetown (77) was upgraded to assist at the incident location.
On Sunday June 28th at 11:50 a.m. the Sussex County EOC alerted the Dagsboro (73) Volunteer Fire Department for an outside fire behind a residence in the 32000 block of Molly Field Road.
Chief Betts arrived on scene just after dispatch to find fire had consumed most of the back yard and had exposures to the residence. Prior to the arrival of any fire apparatus, the fire had spread to the residential structure and rapidly consumed the interior roof space. The incident was immediately upgraded to a working structure fire adding Millsboro (83), Frankford (76), and SCEMS. Due to the extremely heat and hot temperatures, in an attempt to rotate crews out frequently, command requested the cover up units be deployed to the scene in which added Georgetown (77) and Selbyville (89) for the extra manpower and then other companies were alerted to backfill these vacancies at the station standby and cover-ups.
Indian River provided an engine-tanker standby crew at the Millsboro fire station.
